I went to the doorwall of my apartment and looked out to find everything very still but the clouds were a very dirty fishbowl green and quite literally seemed to be boiling. All of a sudden the winds came with pounding rain, lightning and thunder. I saw tree limbs, shingles and other debris flying the one of the carports in the parking lot started to twist and rip. That is when I joined my neighbors out in the hall.

A few minutes later a guy yelled down from upstairs that he needed help. Some of us ran up to find part of his roof was gone so we helped him rescue his TV, stereo and other electronics and take them down to his storage locker then we all huddled down there for safety until the storm was over. When we finally came out it was to broken trees, missing carports, torn roofs and down power lines along with lots of other debris. We couldn't tell if it was from a tornado or straight line winds but the damage was horrific. My roommate’s mom lived off Ford Rd in Canton and there had been a huge willow tree in her side yard. The trunk was three feet in diameter but it had been uprooted and was laying parallel to the house.

I've never seen a sky that had looked like that one had before or since and only one storm worse, a hurricane off Cape Hatteras. I hope I never see one like either of them again. Unfortunately I'm likely to see more than one bad one now that I live in southwest Florida but at least most of the time the climate is a lot better. Now if only we didn’t have a wider variety of predators than I think anywhere else in the country. Ah well, can’t have everything.

Laura T.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03846491057474328829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061638381804602738.post-9463346605898204802016-06-22T20:49:25.213-04:002016-06-22T20:49:25.213-04:00I remember that storm very, very well. My neighborhood lost a good percentage of its mature trees that day. Almost every house on my street lost a tree. My father and brothers and I worked for days to clear the nearby streets. I turned 16 two days after the storm hit. - Phil from Allen ParkAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061638381804602738.post-23385553545081507342014-07-19T15:20:33.055-04:002014-07-19T15:20:33.055-04:00You are very welcome; "I got a million of ...You are very welcome; "I got a million of 'em" ;-)
WeatherHistorian_SeMIhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12247129301782738256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061638381804602738.post-25891080862931064672014-07-16T12:08:31.729-04:002014-07-16T12:08:31.729-04:00Thx so much for sharing weather stories with us. ...Thx so much for sharing weather stories with us. sandynoreply@blogger.com
